Heat Recovery Ventilation Systems Pros and Cons

Heat Recovery Ventilation Systems Pros and Cons

In this time of dramatically increasing energy bills, as well as environmental concerns, we’re all looking for ways to improve efficiency and lower costs. Business is of course, no different, and that’s why here at Aspect Energy Management we have a range of energy and efficiency solutions to help you keep costs lower, benefit your customers and the environment too – nice!

An article by MoneySavingExpert points to average energy rises of 54% from April with bills likely to increase still further in October [https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/2022/03/energy-price-hikes-is-now-time-to-fix/], with prices rising too in the wider economy and global issues threatening supply there’s never been a more pressing time to make efficiencies on your business and domestic energy usage.

As we alluded to earlier, Aspect Energy certainly has some of the answers when it comes to environmentally low impact and energy efficient solutions for the home and business. One such business solution is the use of Heat Recovery Units and Heat Recovery Systems. What’s that you say? Glad you asked.

What is a heat recovery system or heat recovery unit?

Heat recovery systems work by drawing on that potentially valuable warm air or water in a property and ‘recycling’ it to reduce the need for turning the heating on high.

Imagine, if you will, air circulating around a retail store, it becomes stale and is replaced by colder air that it is warmed up by the ventilation system. What happens to that already warm, stale air? It simply gets expelled into the atmosphere via vent or similar. Dirty air at that, being pumped out into the atmosphere, not good for the environment – not good for your energy bills. Ventilation heat recovery systems can take the warmth from that air, purify it and then return it to the building.

The outcome? Helping your boiler/radiators work more efficiently by recycling the warm air so you get the most benefit, and your poor boiler doesn’t have to work so hard (it’ll thank you for it!).

Perhaps you’ve already been searching for heat recovery systems UK, well that’s great – and here at Aspect we can certainly help with project management and install of heat recovery systems.

How about the pros and cons though? After all that’s what this article is all about. Again, we’re glad you asked!

Advantages of Heat Recovery Systems

- The big advantage is improved energy efficiency and, as a result, lower energy bills

- Improved environmental impact, lower carbon footprint

- Purified air circulating in your office, store, hospital, or factory

- Removing stale and dirty air

- Making waste energy useful

- Payback on installation over time with the reduction on energy bills

Disadvantages of Heat Recovery Systems

- Not suitable for every environment (e.g. domestic properties) as a heat recovery system does require a reasonable amount of space

- A heat recovery system won’t cool air
